The Paris of...

There is a reason that other cities all over the world call themselves "The Paris of...", but there is only one Paris. A week spent in this magnificent city is just a tease. As a visitor, one must take the time to see the major attractions including the Eiffel Tower, The Louvre, a cruise on the River Seine, Notre Dame, the D'Orsay Museum, etc.

Nowhere is the style of life celebrated on such a grand scale. There's a lot to be learned by just watching Parisians lead their lives. Be it a well-placed scarf, simple jeans, or the way the people always look like they have stepped from the pages of a fashion magazine, you will see that the details of life such as fashion is obviously a national obsession.

Any discussion on Paris must include the wonderful French food. No matter if it's in the smallest café, or the grandest white-gloved restaurant, I can assure you that there's not a bad meal to be had. From escargot to chocolates, with lots of options in-between, a meal in Paris is an experience in itself.

The beauty of this city also extends beyond central Paris. Be sure to include at least one side journey in your itinerary, such as a scenic 40 minute train ride out to Giverney. A short walk from the rail station to Monet's home is a real treat. Upon entering the home of Claude Monet you are taken back to another era. As you walk through his life you will feel the love and contentment in this home and recognize through his eyes some of his most famous paintings such as "The Water Lillies". If you are fortunate enough to be here in the spring or summer you will enjoy the splendid array of color from the endless gardens overflowing with different varieties of flowers. On the walk back to town and the rail station, stop into The American Museum for a wonderful hour or so to look at some great art, as well as taking in some of the beautiful, picturesque countryside.

Paris is a destination that one should take the time to wander the streets. Areas not be missed certainly include the Left Bank, the Marais, St. Honore, and of course the Champs Elysee. You will be able to observe that each neighborhood has its own particular charm as you take in the local color. Impeccably manicured gardens spread throughout the city offering a perfect spot to take in the sights and sounds of life here. This is the ideal setting to enjoy a snack purchased at a nearby store. Perhaps some bread and cheese, or a flaky croissant, fresh, crisp and buttery, as only found in Paris.

Paris certainly houses some of the greatest artwork known to man, in any number of 100’s of museums. However, the real lesson to be learned in Paris is the art of living, which the Parisians seem to have mastered.
